RESIDENTS' REGISTRATION OFFICE (CITY COUNCIL)

What do I do at the Residents' registration office?

After you have found a place to live, you have to register at the Residents' registration office (Einwohnermeldeamt). The addresses for the offices in Berlin and Potsdam can be found below. For your registration you will need

- your passport, possibly with visa,

- your tenancy agreement or a confirmation of your landlord that you have moved in.

At the Residents' registration office you have to fill in a form and you will get a confirmation of registration (Meldebestätigung), which you should keep safe. You will have to pay a fee for the registration.

When will I receive my transport pass?

You will get your transport pass on the day of your matriculation. It is valid from the start of the semester but only in connection with your student card, which you will receive on the same day.

Where is the transport pass valid?

Your transport pass is valid for the entire public transport system of Berlin and Brandenburg. You can use it in buses, trams, underground and surburban trains; it is also valid for regional trains like the RE 1.
