Tracing Addai
“I didn’t leave to get away from you, remember that.“ Six weeks after his sudden disappearance, Addai sends an email to his mother. She replies: “I need you here, or at least in a safe place.” Her son had emigrated to Syria. Addai was like a little brother to me. I'd often spent time with him - our families lived close by. His mother still lives there today. I see her angry, sad, and full of self-doubt. Without any success she searches for answers, until she gets a letter from a lawyer. His client Ilias is in prison. The verdict: supporting a terrorist organisation in a foreign country. Ilias wants to meet Addai’s mother and writes to her: “One thing you have to believe me, we left with good intentions.”
