Anna Barbara Kurek studied Acting at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Art in Berlin, where she specialized in the discipline of speaking. Earning a second degree in Voice Studies from Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg, she further enhanced her expertise in this field. She has many years of experience as an actress on stages across Germany and in the film business and works as a voice artist and instructor. She performed on stages in cities such as Leipzig, Dresden, Altenburg, Magdeburg, Recklinghausen, and Munich.

As a voice artist and actress, Kurek worked for broadcasting stations such as WDR, BR, rbb, Deutschlandfunk, Deutschlandradio, and Kabel 1 and lent her voice to numerous film characters. Besides, she worked as an instructor at Folkwang-Hochschule Essen and Otto-Falckenberg-Schule in Munich for many years. As a voice expert, she provides training for presenters and announcers working at radio stations.

Prior to her appointment as professor at Film University Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF in 2005, she was offered a professorship at Berlin University of the Arts (UdK) in 1994.

As a dean and member of several appointments committees at Film University Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF and other art schools, Anne Barbara Kurek assumes further responsibilities. She also supervises interdisciplinary projects such as ANIMATED AUDIO ARTS and establishes collaborations with institutions and publishing houses (such as bebra-Verlag and Liebermann-Villa).

She has been a regular jury member in the Fiction section of the German Grimme-Preis since 2006.
