Born in Stuttgart in 1974, Chris Wahl studied Theater, Film and Television Studies, Romance Studies, and Intercultural German Studies in Bochum, Lisbon, and Curitiba. He earned a PhD degree from Ruhr-Universität Bochum, where he wrote is thesis on language and fiction films. Afterwards, he was involved in DFG research projects on multiple language versions in Bochum, on film style (slow motion and superimpositions) in Babelsberg, and on regional film culture in Brandenburg. In 2013, he was awarded a DFG Heisenberg Professorship, which was subsequently extended permanently. Wahl has been responsible for establishing and managing the school's Film Culture Heritage program.  Currently, he also serves as deputy managing director of Brandenburgisches Zentrum für Medienwissenschaften (ZeM).
