Hon.-Prof. Kirsten Niehuus
Kirsten Niehuus has been managing director of the film funding department of Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg GmbH since 2004. Prior to that, she held various positions in the film industry – including as head of several legal departments and as deputy director of the German National Film Fund (Filmförderungsanstalt, FFA). She was also the German representative to the Eurimages cultural support fund.
She is a member of various committees and boards, including the ZDF-Fernsehrat, the advisory board of Deutscher Filmförderfonds (DFFF), the shareholders' meeting of German Films, and the board of trustees of Deutsche Film- und Fernsehakademie Berlin (DFFB).
As managing director of the film funding department of Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg GmbH, Niehuus has been responsible for initiating various special programs, including the "Leuchtstoff" program for the promotion of new talent as well as several artist-in-residence scholarship programs and co-development funds with partners in Poland, Turkey, and Russia. At the 26th edition of Filmfestival Cottbus in 2016, she received an honorary award for her achievements in the development of the Middle and East European film industry.
Niehuus was honored with the French "Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres" order in 2013 and has been honorary professor at Film University Babelsberg Konrad Wolf since 2014.
