Film Heritage

Moving beyond genres, film can be considered an enormous collective memory comprising countless artistic, political, and social impressions and processes. Research projects in this category focus on evaluating and providing access to films as part of the national cultural heritage. In this context, Filmmuseum Potsdam with its extensive collections is both an important resource and a key player. International research activities are informed by the knowledge about the uniqueness of Babelsberg as a media city and its reputation as a film production location with a grand, yet also questionable tradition.
