Jakob Mäsel

Jakob Mäsel works as a sound designer, composer and re-recording mixer for film, radio and music labels. Under the name 'Ben Jacov' he releases and composes music for film and live electronics. His approach to sound is improvisational, focusing on the psychological states of the work as a whole as well as its characters, especially in the early stages of development. He has worked on a wide range of internationally acclaimed projects. Recent projects include The Shame of the Borbély Family (2025, D: Kálmán Nagy), Through the Wall (2025, D: Sarah Miro Fischer, winner of the San Sebastián WIP) and You Are Another Me (2024, D: Adina Pintilie, WKV Stuttgart). He holds a Master of Fine Arts in Sound from Babelsberg Film University where he also teaches audiovisual perception and sound dramaturgy and is currently working on a doctorate on character-centred sound dramaturgy in script development. He regularly holds masterclasses, e.g. at Max Ophüls Festival, Université Gustave Eiffel Paris and Filmakademie Wien.
