Based on a true story: The burglar Kasimir gains access to people’s homes by hiding inside a hollowed-out couch. From his hiding place, he secretly films the inhabitants. His employer and mastermind behind the break-ins, the pathologically emotionless Dr. Liebermann, receives these recordings of other people’s lives and uses them in an attempt to understand human emotions. When Kasimir begins to question Liebermann’s rules, the doctor makes a fateful decision about his destiny.
“INTERIOR is based on a true crime case from 1973 about burglars hiding in couches. But beyond its thriller premise, the film explores how people live behind facades—our universal desire to uncover others’ secrets while fiercely protecting our own. As a queer director, I have created a psychological thriller that examines the boundaries between reality and fiction, featuring queer protagonists without making their sexuality the focal point. Through the story of Kasimir, who escapes into other people’s lives by breaking into their homes, and his unrequited love for Dr. Liebermann, the film explores isolation, unseen love, and the fundamental question of what shapes our different realities. This is not just a film—it is an exploration into the depths of the human soul.”
