OMNI Inclusion Data Pilot Studie

There are currently no reliable figures on diversity in the film and media industry. With OMNI Inclusion Data, data on diversity-relevant characteristics such as gender, ethnicity, migration history, disability and much more is collected directly from the cast and crew of current media productions and made available to the industry in anonymized form. The accompanying pilot study supports MOIN and the OMNI partners in the development of the OMNI Inclusion Data Tool.

The importance of diversity and inclusion in the film and media industry

Diversity and inclusion play a central role in the variety of stories told and thus influence how societies perceive themselves and others. The development of the OMNI Inclusion Data tool demonstrates the potential of evidence-based, systematic data collection to guide and inform policy and practice towards meaningful change.

What is OMNI?

OMNI Inclusion Data is a pioneering project designed to promote diversity and inclusion in the film and media industry. The initiative, developed by MOIN Film Fund in collaboration with the Australian platform The Everyone Project, offers an innovative online survey that enables cast & crew to provide their data in a GDPR-compliant way.

The survey, which takes five minutes or less to complete, captures important information about the diversity of the industry's workforce. It covers a wide range of data points, from ethnicity to gender to physical ability. This provides a comprehensive picture of the industry composition.

The information collected is carefully analyzed and regularly published in anonymized reports. This not only creates greater transparency, but also raises awareness of the current challenges relating to diversity and inclusion in the film and media industry.

The importance of the project lies not only in the data collection, but also in the potential impact. Sound data enables decision makers and industry leaders to make informed decisions to promote diversity and inclusion within the industry and effect long-term positive change.

The broad support OMNI receives from the German film and media industry emphasizes the urgency and need for such initiatives. It also shows that the industry is willing to actively work towards greater diversity and inclusion and that OMNI is an important step in this direction.

Accompanying research

The pilot study will comprehensively analyze the basis of OMNI Inclusion Data. The research team at the Film University Babelsberg is dedicated to systematically analyzing existing international formats and studies on equality, diversity and inclusion, which will be compared with OMNI. In addition, interviews will be conducted with various interest groups in order to carry out a comprehensive quantitative and qualitative analysis of user experiences with the OMNI tool. The aim is to ensure that the OMNI tool is fair, understandable and inclusive for all users. In addition, the data collected by OMNI will be analyzed in detail and evaluated in a final report.
