The NECS workgroup film philosophy intends to provide a platform dedicated to exploring the relationship between film and philosophy as a transdisciplinary dialogue. Thereby the field of film-philosophy stands for the contemporary development of a way of philosophizing, in which films are not only a subject of a theoretical-semiotic analysis but conversely, films are conceived as a model of world reflection. This enables new forms of philosophical knowledge concerning the question of being (ontology), the question of the prerequisites of knowledge (epistemology) and the question of reality (metaphysics). Conversely, philosophical reflection sparks audiovisual creation and can become a method of artistic research in film.
The workshop is conceived as a meeting for the members of the NECS workgroup and all people interested in the topic. Our goal is to get to know each other’s positions, to exchange ideas as well as developing fruitful networks and strategies for the future.
Speakers: Shai Biderman, Christiane Voss, William Brown, Lucy Bolton, Susana Viegas, Kamil Lipinski, Christine Reeh-Peters and Thorsten Botz Bornstein
