ARCHAEOPTERYX CONTOUR FEATHER, Museum für Naturkunde Berlin, May 14, 2022, pencil on paper, 210 mm x 297 mm, Frank Geßner

In the beginning there was the line: drawing is a medium for spontaneous communication and notation, autonomous artistic expression and training of pictorial, plastic, and spatial thinking. However, visual arts understood as “image as construction” sees its role primarily in creating interfaces between all art forms. “Everything is drawing. A sculpture is a drawing in three-dimensional space. A painting is a drawing with colors. You can say, at least for me, that everything is just drawing.” Alberto Giacometti

“What is important now is to recover our senses. We must learn to see more, to hear more, to feel more. (...) In place of a hermeneutics we need an erotics of art.”  Sontag, Susan, 1966, “Against Interpretation”, in: AGAINST INTERPRETATION AND OTHER ESSAYS, New York: Dell, S. 1-10.
