Dr. Yulia Yurtaeva-Martens
Yulia Yurtaeva-Martens © Tim GassauerDr. Yulia Yurtaeva-Martens is serving as Visiting Professor of Audiovisual Media Studies in the Summer Semester 2026.
After completing her studies in History as well as Film and Media Studies in Berlin and Potsdam, she worked as a research associate at the Film University Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF, where she taught in the Media Studies and Digital Media Culture programs.
As a Research Officer in the Research and Transfer Department, she coordinated the Graduate Academy at the Film University from 2022 to 2023. From 2023 to 2024, Yulia Yurtaeva-Martens was a postdoctoral researcher in the research project “In Real Life? – Virtual Encounters with Witnesses from the Nazi Era.”
Since 2024, she has been a research associate at the Institute for Media and Communication Studies at Freie Universität Berlin. She is also an associated researcher at the Leibniz Institute for Media Research | Hans-Bredow-Institut (HBI).
Dr. Yulia Yurtaeva-Martens received her PhD at the Film University Babelsberg Konrad Wolf on transnational television programme exchanges in Eastern Europe during the Cold War in the period of 1960–1993.
