Jirsa showed various, very different examples including Beyoncé, Earl Sweatshirt and R.E.M., giving insights on how to speak of music videos as its own genre (is it even one?), how music videos create and frame star personas and also how bodies and rhythm constitute genuine forms of atmosphere between images and music.
Finally, the students presented mood boards, which they were assigned to prepare in advance, on how they would create a music video for their favourite song, discussing with Prof. Jirsa how they would emphasise the atmosphere and feeling tones they connect with that song.
The students and of course the CATNEMI team were very intrigued by Jirsa’s thoughts and reflections about the importance of atmosphere for the audiovisual aesthetics of music videos. We are looking forward to further collaborations.
