In this hands-on workshop, filmmaker, creative entrepreneur and NOISE* Scholar 2025 Heidi Philipsenshares her real-world experience navigating the crowdfunding landscape in Germany and the US, showing how this powerful tool can not only fund your project – but also shape your brand, marketing, and mission.

 Crowdfunding as a creative process

  • Cultivate a loyal fanbase, audience, or community
  • Fine-tune your project's mission based on real feedback
  • Gain insights into who your supporters really are – and what they care about
  • Adapt your concept subtly before production even begins

Crowdfunding as marketing

  • Your campaign becomes your first step in distribution
  • People hear about your project early – they can become future clients, partners, or ticket buyers
  • It builds real momentum and visibility, beyond just money

International & entrepreneurial perspectives

  • How to access funding from outside your country of residence
  • What crowdfunding platforms are best for film & creative businesses
  • How AI is changing the crowdfunding game
  • How crowdfunding and public/federal funding can work hand in hand

This workshop is ideal for creatives and entrepreneurs who are ready to become independent, strategic, and connected to their audiences – and who want to learn how to use crowdfunding as more than just a money tool.

About the NOISE* EXIST Women program:

The community and scholarship program runs from January to December 2025 and we will announce further community event dates (every two weeks). The event will also provide information about the individual financial support opportunities offered by the NOISE* scholarship. You can find out more about this and the call for applications on our website in advance. If you have any questions, please send an e-mail to: noise-exist(at)filmuniversitaet.de.

NOISE* EXIST-Women is an Initiative by Filmuniversitaet Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF, financed by Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Klimaschutz(BMWK).

This new funding program aims to support women / FLINTA in the development of creative business ideas. The program offers support in the form of grants, financial support for material resources, mentoring and coaching as well as access to co-working spaces. As part of this, the start-up service will host a series of community events on campus for women* / FLINTA founders to share ideas and work together on solutions. This community is open to all women* / FLINTA students, staff, alumnae and partners of the Film University.
FLINTA* is a German abbreviation that stands for "Frauen, Lesben, Intergeschlechtliche, nichtbinäre, trans und agender Personen", meaning women, lesbians, intersex, non-binary, trans and agender people.

The deadline for NOISE* scholarship application was 20th of February 2025.
