Die Dokumentarfilmreihe "GeZinema" beschäftigt sich mit den globalen Widerstandsbewegungen des letzten Jahrzehnts und ihren Nachwirkungen. Gezeigt werden Filme, die im Epizentrum der Proteste von Chile bis zum Libanon gedreht wurden und die Geschichten ihrer Akteur*innen bezeugen. Im Anschluss an jede Vorführung finden Gespräche mit Expert*innen statt, die die Filme kontextualisieren und Verständnis für reale Ereignisse ermöglichen. Dabei bieten sie Anlass, um über die repräsentative und emanzipative Kraft des Mediums Film zu diskutieren.
Şirin Erensoy, Marie Skłodowska-Curie-Fellow an der Filmuniversität mit einem wissenschaftlich-künstlerischen Forschungsprojekt zu Videoaktivismus innerhalb der türkischen Diaspora, hat die Filmreihe zusammen mit Necati Sönmez kuratiert. Den Bezug zwischen dem Programm und ihrer Forschungsarbeit beschreibt sie so:
"The GeZinema film program has allowed me to broaden the scope of my post-doctoral project, VIDEOACT, and incorporate global perspectives on the use of video/documentary form as an activist tool for self-representation. Co-curating the program with one of my project paritcipants, Necati Sönmez, an activist, film critic and festival organizer, was one of the important outcomes of the research. The selection includes 9 feature films, 4 mid-length documentaries, and 3 short documentaries from Lebanon to Chile, Sudan to Brazil, has enabled me to establish connections between collective actions worldwide and explore the various forms of resistance employed by social movement makers who advocate for change in the social contracts between citizens, the state, and social structures. These documentaries bear witness to, document, and disseminate narratives from the heart of protests, inspiring action, fostering dialogue, and sparking policy debates. By organizing Q&A sessions with filmmakers, activists, and scholars after the screenings, my aim is to create a space for discussion on current affairs and renew our hope, forging solidarity to pursue our shared goals and aspirations for the future."
