FORTUNA VALENTYN
Valentyn is already trying to cross the Black Sea for the third time, carried by his self-made kayak. Every time he feels fully equipped for the giant waves, the scorching heat, the bitter cold and then the leaden tiredness... After the revolution of dignity 2013/2014 Russia annexed the Ukrainian peninsula Crimea and pro-voked the war in the east of Ukraine. While many young Ukrainians went to fight in the war or had to find the way back to their everyday life, Valentyn decided to move back to his home town to be-come a member of the city council there. Here he is directly confronted with the corrupt small town politics that is closely intertwined with the mafia, showing him the insights of what the revolution fought against. The success and the failures of Valentyn's work resemble the highs and lows of the waves, regu-larly breaking his fragile boat making it unable to control, but also demonstrating to Valentyn the strength that he can one day achieve.
