Michel Birn: Ghosts of Berlin

The model of a Berlin cityscape tells the daily novels of a big city, which seem to be in a compelling connection with each other like in a crime novel. The encounter between the created and the living appears in a ghostly experience.

The model of a Berlin cityscape is the scene and experimental setup for numerous events: projections create ghostly holograms, sound fragments emanate from loudspeakers, moving lights distort the space, while hidden cameras record scenes that they simultaneously project back on screens. The city appears in the form of a self-producing machine that is subject to the principles of chance as it follows a complex regularity. Ghosts of Berlin draws cross-references between architecture, scenography and film and uses artistic means to examine the relationship between reality and fiction.
