Application

We are pleased that you are interested in studying at our university. Here you will find information about the application process as well as about the documents and work samples you must submit.

Students who wish to be admitted to the program must meet the admission criteria and successfully prove their artistic eligibility to enroll. The assessment of applicants' artistic eligibility encompasses the pre-selection process and the admission test, both of which will be conducted according to the applicable regulations and statutes of Film University Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF

Only online applications will be accepted. The application form will be available during the application period (please see section 2. online application).

Application deadline

Applications are accepted only once a year for the Winter Semester. The application period is April 1, through May 31, 2024. Please note that this is a receipt deadline, not a postmark deadline.

Attention: Please note that changes regarding the application deadline and the procedure for determining program-specific eligibility are possible. We therefore recommend that you check this website regularly for information.

Application procedure

1. Application materials

All applicants must apply online. For this purpose, please use the Filmuniversität's student application portal.

If you have a foreign certificate and have already registered and applied at uni-assist, you must also apply via the Filmuniversität's application portal.

ATTENTION: Shortly before the end of the application period, server problems and delays in the online application process may occur due to many (last-minute) applications. So do not wait until the last day of the deadline! Applications and late submissions after the application deadline will not be accepted!

ATTENTION: Before registering in the Student Application Portal, you should have all required files prepared.

Please note:

  • paper applications will NOT be considered
  • registration/application in the study application portal is only possible during the application period. Please note that the application period is a cut-off period
  • an application fee is charged for the application. Applications for which the application fee has not been paid will not be considered for the assessment procedure
  • incomplete applications will not be considered for the assessment process
  • you can track the processing status of your application in the study application portal. Please refrain from making inquiries by telephone.

1.1. General documents

  • Table of contents (preferable)
  • A CV in tabular form
  • An explanation why you wish to enroll in the program (one page maximum)
  • proof of work-related practical experience
  • the tabular list of the professional practical activity

1.2. University entrance qualification certificate

If you have acquired your university entrance qualification in Germany, please inform yourself about the required evidence in the paragraph "German certificate". If you have acquired your university entrance qualification outside Germany, please inform yourself about the documents to be submitted under "Foreign certificate".

The university entrance qualification complies with §9, paragraphs 2 - 4 of the Brandenburg Higher Education Act.

German university entrance qualification certificate

  • i.e. a copy of the certificate proving your general or specialized university entrance qualification (PDF); applicants who do not hold either of the certificates mentioned above / an equivalent certificate are asked to submit their most recent school certificate

International university entrance qualification certificate

International applicants holding a university entrance qualification from a non-German-speaking institution / foreign school must submit the certificates as original documents or copies, that have been legally certified. If certificates are not written in German or English, a legally certified translation must be included as an original document or a copy that has been legally certified.

Please note: for applicants from the People’s Republic of China, Republic of India and the Socialistic Republic of Vietnam special arrangements apply.

1.3. Language requirements

International applicants holding a university-entrance qualification from a non-German-speaking institution are required to show that they have achieved an overall rating of at least DSH-1 in the DSH ("Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang" / German Language Test for University Admission) test or provide an equivalent language certificate complying with the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). Please submit a copy of the language certificate. Please inform about the accepted German language proficiency certificates of the study program.

Note: Further information if your German proficiency is lower than the required level.

1.4. Certificates / references of practical experience

  • Specific activities in the field of computer graphics or VFX of at least 12 weeks at the time of applying (this may include various areas of computer generated imagery (CGI) such as 3D computer games, 3D modeling, CAD, computer animation, VFX media productions or comparable) or in the field of media design. (In exceptional cases specific activities can be acquired until the beginning of the program).

1.5. Work samples

Work samples for proof of suitability:

Furthermore, work samples (a maximum 5) with a detailed presentation of your own contribution (PDF, maximum 5 sentences). All work samples are to be documented, if possible, by a video sequence (MP4, MP3 or WAV) or in the form of individual images (JPG or PNG). (Total data volume maximum 2 GB).

The restrictions imposed by the study application portal apply. Video files must be playable in current browsers without additional software/codecs.

2. Pre-Selection

Based on the materials submitted, the admissions committee will decide which applicants will receive permission to take the admission test and inform them in writing.

3. Admission Test

Part 1 - Written Part:

  • Personal interests in the context of VFX, CGI, artistic design and film
  • Questions about basic knowledge in the field of VFX, CGI, concept art
  • Practical tasks in free and subject-specific artistic design

Part 2 - Interview:

  • Interview on the artistic and personal profile of the applicant
  • Presentation and analysis of the answers and work developed in the written part
  • Questions about design and technological capability issues 

Prerequisite for participation in the 2nd part is passing the 1st part.

Normally, the admission test results will be communicated in writing to the applicant no later than 4 weeks after the last test.
