Research Data

The support services for handling research data at the Film University are currently being developed. On these pages, we are continuously adding information on research data management (RDM), such as guidelines and recommendations on the (discipline-specific) handling of research data, on general and subject-specific IT and online services, as well as information on our services.

Influenced by the digital transformation, research data is also increasingly being used, produced and discussed in film and media studies. Research data refers to (digital) data that is created during the research process, plays a role and is its result. Not only the publications or the works, materials and media created in artistic practice, but also the data obtained in the course of the research process should be systematically recorded, made publicly accessible as far as possible and archived in the long term for subsequent use.

Due to the profile of the university, a variety of special technologies and multimodal data types must be taken into account, from raw data, texts, annotations, simulation data, transcriptions, model descriptions, evaluations, software, source text and discipline-specific metadata to audiovisual data from music, film and stage performances. The resulting data types and formats are extremely diverse.

National and international funding guidelines are also increasingly demanding corresponding data concepts and data management plans (DMPs).

The responsible handling of research data in accordance with the FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable) over the entire data life cycle and their archiving create the basis for Open Science, i.e. a scientific practice with the aim of making research data and reports accessible in such a way that this enables collaboration between researchers and the reproducibility of research results:

Research data is an essential foundation for scientific work. The diversity of this data reflects the wide range of different scientific disciplines, research interests and research methods.
