The Film University Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF has initiated the volumetric witness project, funded by the MWAE, to document the testimony of survivors and witnesses of the Holocaust and to preserve it for future generations in the highest possible quality. Volumetric capture technology is an innovative film technique that makes it possible to record people in full and authentically in three dimensions and to bring them to life. The volumetric videos are produced in close cooperation with Volucap GmbH in Potsdam-Babelsberg.
The aim is to create a digital archive consisting of 6 to 8 volumetrically captured interviews with witnesses. The interviews focus on biographical events linked to the Holocaust. The material will be used by pioneering media for the memory work of future generations and, as a non-commercial project, primarily addresses educational and cultural institutions with a focus on the culture of remembrance.
The team of the Film University Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF is implementing a first virtual reality experience based on the archive material as a proof of concept.
